Gladiators are Here

Do you remember gladiators? Did you ever rock them when they were in vogue? If didn’t have the opportunity to do so, you can now.

History

Gladiators are t-strap sandals with several straps running across the front of the foot. These sandals have historical roots in the Ancient Greeks and the Roman Empire, where gladiators wore the Gladiator Sandals between the 193 to 211 CE. Predominantly made in leather (animal hide), the toughest leather were used for the soles and the softer pieces for the straps and inner sole.

Modern Gladiators

Though gladiators first came out as fashion piece in the 1960s, they became a must-have in 2008. In more modern times the styles may have changed but the concepts have not. In the case of these types of sandals, the strap which runs along the top of the foot connects to a series of straps which branch off to the sides, creating a webbing of straps on the front of the foot.
Modern gladiator sandals sometimes branch far from their ancestors, with some women's designs featuring tall heels, thick wedges, and other design features which make the shoes a bit less practical.
These sandals are best paired with short feminine apparels.
