FAILURE, A ROAD MAP TO SUCCESS: Oprah

Oprah, whose birth name is Orpah has been cited as the richest African American of the 20th century. She is currently worth $3 billion. However, she was born in an economically troubled neighborhood and raised by a single-teenaged mother in the city of Milwaukee.

Initially, Oprah was raised by her maternal grandmother, who taught her to read at an early age. Due to her ability to read and write before the age of three, she was often promoted several grades ahead of her age when enrolled in school.

However, when she was sent to her mother in Milwaukee, her lack of supervision enabled several male relatives and friends to sexually abuse Oprah, who gave birth to a premature baby (who died shortly after birth) at the age of fourteen.

After the death of her baby, she went to Nashville, Tennessee to live with her father, Vernon Winfrey. Vernon was a strict disciplinarian, who gave his daughter the secure home life she needed to flourish. It was here that she became an honor student and won prizes for oratory and dramatic recitation in college.

After college, she got a job in Baltimore, Maryland, but was sacked after six months because she was considered not to be a very good reporter. However, In 1981 Oprah sent recorded tapes of her show to a talk-show in Chicago called A.M. Chicago, where she was immediately offered a job and in September of 1985 she changed the name of the show to, "The Oprah Winfrey Show".

Over the years, Oprah and her show have received various awards, such as the 1998 Achievement Award from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and the 2011 Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award from the Academy Of Motion Pictures Arts And Sciences. In addition, Oprah endorsed US presidential candidate Barack Obama in the 2008 presidential election,. This move was revealed to have delivered over one million votes to Obama.

Quotes

All my life I have always known I was born to greatness.
My philosophy is that doing your best at this moment puts you in the best place for the next moment.
What matters is how you feel inside, because feeling beautiful on the inside is key to looking good.
The essential question is not, "How busy are you?' but 'What are you busy at?' 'Are you doing what fulfills you?'
